“Heats are unpredictable until your body gets used to them at the best of times. Since your wolf was repressed for so many years, you may experience worse irregularity. More frequent and longer periods of need. We can’t have that. Our unmated male students won't survive.”

“I mated with Kingston.” I wasn’t sure why I blurted it out except as some kind of explanation that she didn’t need to worry about me suffering alone.

“I am aware. He’s already put in the paperwork requesting mated pair housing. As has Mr. Blackthorne.”

“What?” Noah and I hadn’t even sealed our bond until right before he left. How had he found the time?

“Mr. Blackthorne came to me a little over a week ago stating his intentions with you. And your Mr. Farrell applied only a few days after.”

Oh, my God. Both of them just anticipated I’d uproot everything and live with them? But if I was being honest, the thought made my heart flutter. Maybe there was a house where all of us could live together.

“Does this stuff prevent...”

“Conception? Yes. If taken properly.”

“How does someone take it improperly?”

She smiled. “By not coming to see me.”

“Understood.”

She looked pointedly at the bottle.

“Oh, you want me to take it now.”

I pulled the little purple topper off and carefully sniffed the clear liquid.

“I’d be offended by your reticence if you were anyone else. But I must say, Mademoiselle Fallon, I approve of your caution. After the attacks on you, one can never be too careful.”

“You know about those? That they were after me?”

“I see all. Remember?”

I held the vial to my lips and looked at her. “I have to drink all of it?”

She nodded. “All. A fresh supply will be waiting for you next week.”

I tensed as I tipped the bottle back, bracing myself for it to taste bitter and medicinal. Surprisingly, it didn’t taste like anything. Though as soon as the liquid slid down my throat, icy cold moved through my body, making me shiver.

“Very good. You may go now.”

I had to force my teeth not to chatter, but I already felt better. My body warmed itself from the inside out. “Thank you.”

The doors opened without me touching them, and I stepped out into the hall, feeling protected, secure, and like I could go back to normal.

That alone should have tipped me off.

When had things ever been normal?
