“You’ve said that before, then the Council took you away from me.”
He pressed a kiss to my temple. “Never again. They’ll have to drag me from you.”
“And what if they do?”
“I’ll rip their fucking heads off.”
“How are you here now? Is it over? Did you figure out how to get them off your back?”
He shook his head. “Now is not the time. We’ll talk about it after your heat has passed.”
“Promise you’ll tell me?”
“I promise. Now sleep, little wolf. I’ll watch over you.”
I tried to fight it. I’d missed this—him—so much. But just like it had been with the others, the side effect of my heat left me exhausted, and soon my lids were fluttering closed without my permission. Leaving me to fall asleep in the arms of my vampire, his tight hold and the steady thump of his heart the only things I was aware of as I faded away.
