“It wasn’t a lie.”When I raised my eyebrows, he rubbed a hand over the back of his neck.“Okay, fine. There are six people here right now that could handle a private lesson.I had to clear my schedule to be here. But I thought that if I told you that, you’d think that I was being possessive or hiding something from you.”

“And you’re not being possessive?I know you’re hiding things from me, don’t bother denying that.”

He closed his mouth, clearly about to do just that.“I thought it would give us a chance to talk.I can show you around the resort, and you can ask whatever questions you want where none of the other guests might overhear you.And since you clearly want honesty…yes, I wanted a chance to get you alone.”

Heat flared in his eyes, lighting a twin flame in me.I licked my lips.I knew where this was going, and I wanted to go there. But I also wanted to lay out some terms before we went any further.“I can tell from what I saw last night that pretty much everyone in your life lets you direct them. You get what you want by clearing the path, then leading someone down it like it just magically appeared. But you don’t have to manage me.Just tell me the truth.”

His jaw was a little off center, like I’d knocked it out of place with my assessment.“It’s habit,” he said, his voice a little rusty.“Honestly, I’ve been looking for an excuse to see you since I left you last night.”

“You didn’t need an excuse,” I said.I’d asked for truth, so I gave it back.“I spent the whole night wondering if you’d come back.”

He licked his lips.I knew exactly how his tongue tasted, and I wanted to taste it again.“Look.I’m here, you’re here.I have a saddlebag full of Dominic’s famous sandwiches and two horses ready to go.Let me teach you how to ride.”
