Dylan shrugged.“Maybe.If we could find them.”

“Well.I guess there’s no better time than now to try.”

When Dylan and Micah nodded and stood, Edie’s head whipped up.“You’re going to look for the wolf pack? Now?”

“We’re here.Why not?”

“It’s the middle of the night. You don’t know what could be out there.”

Micah chuckled.“That’s cute. You remember we are wolf shifters, right? We do this sort of thing all the time. There’s nothing in those woods we can’t handle.”

“I was gonna get up in a few hours anyway to start kitchen prep,” Dylan said.“Not much point in trying to sleep now.”

“Are you sure this is a good idea?”she asked me.

“It’s the only one I’ve got,” I said, taking her hand.“I wish I didn’t have to leave you.”

“We’ll give you a minute,” Dylan said gruffly, and dragged a grinning Micah away.

“It was always inevitable that they would find out about us, wasn’t it?”Edie said with a sigh.

“Is there anusfor them to find out about?”

She angled her body toward mine but didn’t meet my eyes.“I don’t know.”

I decided to take that as encouraging.“Do you want there to be?”

“No.”I felt like the floor fell out from under me.“But it doesn’t seem to matter what I want.Every time I’m around you, I lose control of myself.”

“I know the feeling.”

She squeezed my hand.“Why can’t I stop wanting you?”

She thought it was a rhetorical question, but I had the answer.Should I tell her now? She’d already seen enough today to understand that there was a magic to shifters that made us different from humans. She could tell that there was something between us that was different from what she’d experienced in her other relationships.Maybe, instead of freaking her out, knowing that she was my fated mate would help her make sense of what was happening between us.

But I didn’t want to tell her and then leave her alone.I didn’t want to leave her alone at all, but Micah and Dylan were waiting for me.There was a chance the wolfpack was still nearby.Responsibility tugged at me like a collar around my throat.I couldn’t just think about myself.I had to think about what was best for all of us.

I waited too long to reply.Edie sighed, then slid her hand out from under mine.“You should go.It’s late already.”

I wanted to kiss her, press her back against the mattress and spend the rest of the night making up for lost time. But my brothers were waiting.

I stood up.If I stayed on that narrow bed any longer, I’d never leave.
