Her hands came up and splayed lightly on my chest, almost hesitantly, and it reminded me of the things that needed to be said before this went any further.

When I finally popped my sweet girl’s cherry and filled her with my come, she’d be one-hundred-percent mine.

Ripping my mouth away, I groaned and pressed our foreheads together. “Does that feel fake to you?” I rasped.

“No,” she whispered, sounding just as ragged with her choppy breathing.

I dropped one of my hands to hers and pressed it against the big, hard bulge in my pants. “Does this feel fake?”

She shook her head, and I grasped her chin with my other hand, forcing her to look me in the eyes.

“This is what you do to me every time I even fucking think about you. I’ve been dreaming about your taste, this luscious body, and your beautiful laughter. Fantasizing about the day when they would finally be mine.”

Wrenley’s pale green orbs were as round as saucers, her expression relaying her surprise at my confession.

“How could you think this was fake, baby? After all this time we’ve spent getting to know each other…when did I give you that impression? Because I can’t remember ever implying that this thing between us wasn’t real.”

Wrenley sighed, her fingers curling around the lapels of my jacket as her eyes slid down to the region of my bow tie.

“You needed a fake date, and when the girl you were meeting stood you up, you asked me. I figured I was a convenient replacement.”

My head reared back, stunned that Wrenley hadn’t realized my intentions had shifted long before I found out Ember wasn’t coming. I scooped her into my arms again and strode over to one of the luxurious couches. As I dropped onto the cushion, I kept her cocooned tightly against me so she ended up in my lap once I was seated.

“First of all, you were never a replacement, Wrenley,” I told her firmly. “I was thrilled when Ember didn’t show because I’d already been racking my brain to figure out how to cancel the date without looking like a bastard. Especially to you, since I’d intended to ask you to be my date nearly from the moment I met you.”

“What?” she gasped. “You did?” Hope bloomed in her eyes, and my racing heart began to slow.

“You’re mine, and I knew it right away. I just didn’t want to scare you off by being too intense, too fast. So I used the gala as a convenient excuse to spend time with you.”

“But you warned me about your mom because we needed to act like a couple—”

I rolled my eyes and put my hand over her mouth. “I was only warning you that she would be up in our business–especially our plan for giving her grandbabies—and I didn’t want it to freak you out and send you running. And—” I gave her a stern glare to keep her from trying to argue with me—“before you bring up my comment about owing you for going, I’d like to point out that I specifically referenced that it was because you would have to deal with my mom, not because I expected you to pretend to be with me. I already considered you mine, so I knew I’d be able to push my mom off a little once she realized I was serious about you. What did you think I meant when I referred to the event as our first date? Doesn’t that usually mean there will be more?”

I removed my hand and watched her warily, waiting to see if she was beginning to accept the truth or if I had a long road of convincing ahead of me. Because I wasn’t going to last much longer with this exquisite creature sitting on my lap, all alone, in a room with a bed. I’d just have to use my mouth on her pussy and my cock inside her to help drive my intentions home. No pun intended.

“When you said first date, I…” She sighed, and when her eyes met mine, they looked a little sheepish. “I thought you were referring to it that way because we wouldn’t be able to get together beforehand. So instead of being prepared ahead of time, we’d have to dive into the thick of it at the ball because it was technically our first date.” Her cheeks turned pink, and she shrugged. “I’m not sure it even makes any sense, but I was scared to hope that you might actually want to see me…for real.”

Grasping her face in my palms, I locked our gazes and smiled. “It actually does make sense, baby. But I think it’s time to leave the misunderstandings behind and be crystal clear about what is happening here.”

Wrenley’s lips tipped up at the corners, and her eyes brightened.
