It’s been days since I found out the truth. I never told Jenna, but I knew that I didn’t have to. I can see in her eyes that she knows the truth. Thankfully, I think she has kept it from Brent for now. I don’t think it really matters much though, it’s not a long-term secret that can be kept anyway.

I don’t know who to tell first, but I decide that it should be Riff. Even though he likely won’t want anything to do with the baby, I have a feeling that he may even ask me to abort it. I don’t care. He needs to know before anyone else, it’s his right as the father.

Once my class is over for the day, I sink down into the driver’s seat of Brent’s car. He’s been able to use his detective vehicle while I do these classes, using his personal car. He probably pulled the strings to use his work car personally and gave me his car to use because he’s rewarding me for doing what he wants.

I don’t care though. I’m doing everything that he would hate of me, but I can’t hide it from Riff. It would be wrong. And no matter what, I’m not that person. As the father, even if he wants nothing to do with us, he has a right to know.

It doesn’t take me long to drive toward the clubhouse. I remember exactly where it is, because it’s famous in our small town. Everyone knows where it is and what it is. Everyone either hates it, fears it, or is intrigued by it.

Sucking in a breath, I pull up to the chain-link gate and wait. A man jogs toward me, a gun held loosely at his side as he approaches my car window. He doesn’t say anything right away, he looks down at me and almost tilts his head to the side.

“You wanna tell me who you’re here to see, babe?” he asks.

“Riff,” I say softly.

He shakes his head, his eyes focused on mine before he answers. “Ain’t here. But he should be back in a week or so. Though he usually spends his days at the garage, not so much here,” he announces.

I’m surprised that he’s giving me Riff’s schedule, he doesn’t even know who the hell I am, but then he bends his knees and looks down a little bit more. His eyes shift nowhere, but instead stay focused on my own.

“Know who you are. Better if you don’t poke your nose around here, yeah? The garage, end of next week probably,” he says, and I’m shocked that he knows who I am. So shocked that I don’t say anything, just stare at him.

He lifts his hand, slaps it down on the hood of the car a few times, then backs away and goes to his place in the small hut that they have for him. I think about defying him and demanding to go into the clubhouse, but what would be the point? He made it very clear that Riff wasn’t around.

I can wait another week…

Can’t I?

Yeah, I can.

Right?
