CHAPTERTWO

TANNER

I’m not sure what has possessed me to wear a black miniskirt and a bright-blue tube top, but here I am. I’ve never worn anything like this before in my entire life. I’m not usually someone who dresses overly sexy, but I wanted to do something different tonight.

A biker party deserves a sexy crazy outfit, but Jenna lets out a bark of laughter. I turn my head, looking over my shoulder at her.

“I’m sorry, I’ve just never seen you in anything like that before. You look hot as hell,” Jenna announces from her seat on her bed.

She picked me up after Brent left and took me back to her place to get ready for the party. I know without a doubt that Brent would lose his ever-loving mind if he saw me like this, and if he knew where I was going, he would completely come unglued.

That thought alone makes my lips curve up into a grin, no matter how immature it sounds. Slipping on the black extremely high heels, I turn completely around and look down to Jenna. I don’t know if I’m really going to be able to walk in these all night, but hopefully I can kind of stay still and maybe lean against a wall or something.

“Let’s go have some fun,” I say.

Her brows rise before she presses her lips together. I watch as she rolls them a few times, clearing her throat before she rises to her feet from the bed. She’s dressed similarly in a pair of skintight jeans and a black tube top with red high heels. Her hair is pulled up into a high ponytail on top of her head, unlike mine, which is curled in beach waves and hangs down around my elbows.

“I don’t think inviting you was a good idea,” she says softly.

I open my mouth to reply, but she holds up her hand and shakes her head.

“I honestly didn’t think you would come when I invited you. This crowd. It’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before. I don’t think you can handle it.”

I should love that she’s trying to protect me, but I don’t. I’m tired of people trying to protect me. Of trying to control me and tell me what’s good for me, what’s bad for me, or anything at all.

I don’t want to be protected, not anymore.

Brent has overprotected me my entire life. I’m over it. I want to live my life the way I want.

I want to be wild.

Free.

My lips curve up into a grin and I shake my head once. “I’m going,” I announce. “We’re going to go to this party, get a little crazy, and then come home. No harm, no foul.”

“Tanner,” Jenna says, her tone warning as she looks at me.

Shaking my head, I smooth down my hair, rolling my lips together. I pop them and give her a smile.

“Let’s go have some fun.”

Jenna nods her head a couple of times, her eyes focused straight ahead before she sucks in a deep breath, then she takes a step toward me. “Seriously, Tanner,” she breathes. “No pressure.”

“Are you afraid that Brent isn’t going to visit you while your parents are at work during the day anymore if he finds out you’re the one who took me to this?” I ask.

“What?”

She at least looks surprised, though I find that kind of silly. I also find it ridiculous that she thinks she’s been able to hide the fact that she and Brent have been fooling around for over a year a secret.

“Did you think that I didn’t know?” I ask.

She looks down at her feet, then slowly lifts her gaze to meet mine. “Tanner,” she breaks.

Lifting my arm, I take her hand in mine and squeeze her gently. “You thought I didn’t know,” I say softly.

Jenna sucks in a breath, her eyes finding mine. “Okay, yeah, I thought that we were being discreet.”

I snort. “You’re really not,” I inform her.
