He looks down at my hand, then slowly lifts his eyes to meet mine. “Wesley, Riff, he’s asked me to marry him, and I’ve said yes.”

Brent doesn’t say anything right away. He clears his throat, then he lets out a sigh. “Yeah?” he asks.

“Please, can I have your support?” I ask. “Will you come?”

He doesn’t speak right away. He stays completely silent as he just stares at me. He doesn’t say a word, nothing at all. Then he sucks in a breath and nods his head a couple of times.

“You’re happy? He’s good to you?” he asks.

“Yes, and yes,” I say. “I have one month left of classes and then I can take my test. Everything is already scheduled. I just… I wanted to let you know. I’ll have a good seven months of selling real estate under my belt before the baby is born. Wesley has been completely supportive. I just wanted you to know.”

Brent nods his head a couple of times, then inhales deeply before he speaks. “I was worried about you. I’ve always worried about you. Maybe I went about it the wrong way, but I’ve always worried about you, Tanner.”

“I’m okay, Brent. I am okay. I’m better than okay. I’m happy.”

“Then I’ll be there. I love you, Tanner, and I’ll support you.”

My heart soars. “I’ll talk to Jenna too. What she did wasn’t okay. Don’t call Mom back. I’ll handle it.”

Nodding my head a couple of times, I give Brent a smile. He dips his chin, then turns to go back to work.

“Brent?” I call out. He stops, then turns his head and looks over his shoulder at me, waiting for me to speak. “Thank you. I’ve missed you.”

His lips curve up into a grin and he dips his chin, his eyes finding mine. “I’ve missed you too, Tanner.”

SIX MONTHS LATER

WESLEY

Iwatch her from across the room, her brother standing beside me, both of us holding beers as we look across from us. My wife stands there, one hand on her belly as her head is thrown back in laughter.

She’s wearing a long-sleeve tight white floor-length dress that hugs and stretches around her pregnant body perfectly. She’s beautiful today and every day, but especially today because she’s become my wife.

My bride.

“She loves you,” Brent announces.

Turning to him, I bring my beer bottle to my lips and take a long drink. I know that she loves me, I love her too. Much more than I ever thought possible.

“She does, but she loves you too,” I say.

Brent nods his head a couple of times. “I was a dick to her. Said some things, did some things that I’m not proud of.”

I snort. “Yeah, same here. Good thing about Tanner is that she forgives.”

“She does,” he says, his voice a bit rough. “She has forgiven me more than I deserve.”

“Tell me about it,” I say, grinning over at him.

He shakes his head with a laugh. I hate to admit it. I like the fucker. He started coming around a little here and there about six months ago. Tanner told me that I had to keep an open mind. I did, though begrudgingly, and I’ve discovered that I like him. Brent isn’t a bad guy. He’s wound a little tight, but overall, he’s a good person and a caring brother.

“Should have broken up with Jenna a long time ago. Fucked up with that shit.”

“Man, I got lucky with Tanner. I am shit at picking out women,” I say, thoughts of Brianne flashing in my head. Brianne, who was ready to sacrifice my woman and my child for her own selfish desires.

My phone rings and I take it out of my pocket, sliding my thumb across the screen as I lift it to my ear.

“Riff,” I grunt.
