"He won't be bothering women for a long time after they get done with him."

To get her mind off them, I ask, "Do you see your friend?"

She glances about the crowd. There are a lot of people in the club tonight.

"No, she's wearing a pink dress. I don't see her... There's Jenny."

She points at a blonde across the dance floor. She is obviously looking for someone. Lily raises her hand. I steer her across the club, fighting bodies until they are reunited.

Her friend is the opposite of Lily. She's a short little blonde with nice curves but doesn't interest me in the least.

"Where have you been?” Jenny asks, sternly. “I was looking everywhere for you."

"Not my fault. Some guy grabbed me coming out of the bathroom. Blake saved me."

Jenny looks me over.

"Are you okay?" She seizes Lily's hand. "That's why we always go to the bathrooms in twos."

"Good to know. I'll remember that for next time. I'm ready to go. Been a long day."

Before Lily can walk out of my life, I ask, "Can I give you ladies a ride back to your place? I was just leaving myself, so it won't be a problem."

They look at each other, then me, before thankfully agreeing. I escort them back down the very hall from whence we came. Nobody's rolling around on the floor in pain. My car is waiting right outside the door. Jenny and Lily get inside, and I slide in and sit inches away from Lily. I couldn't be happier.

I need to drop them off, but I really want Lily to come back home with me. The gods must be on my side because Jenny practically pushes her friend into my arms.

"Blake, maybe you could take Lily somewhere a little quieter. This is her first night in New York."

I don't miss a beat. "I have just the place."

I feel like a fool, but I'm willing to do anything to get her alone. The quiet little place I'm thinking of is my living room. I won't push or do anything she doesn't want, but I don't want our night to end.

I'm breaking the one cardinal rule I never break—bringing a woman back home with me. I don’t do that. If I want to hook up, I either go to their place or, better yet, a hotel. Not one of ours either. I don't need our employees knowing how many times I hook up. I randomly pick the nearest hotel, easy in and out.

Lily is different. I want her in my apartment, and I can't believe I'm even thinking this, but also in my life.
