I stand up, and all three women look up at me. “Lena, can you close the bar when Sal finishes his beer. Zara, let’s go for a walk.” I hold out my hand for her and she grabs hold without hesitation.

“I’ll talk to you later, Lena.” I squeeze her shoulder as I walk past, and she nods in understanding. Nothing else needs to be said.

I lead Zara out of the bar while I sort through my thoughts. It’s hot and humid outside, but it feels nice after being in the air conditioning all day.

“Let’s go down to the beach.” I take us down a path that leads to a stretch of beach that’s always busy during the day. Most of the summer, really.

It’s fairly quiet tonight, but we walk away from downtown along the shore, the waves providing a gentle shushing soundtrack. For a while neither of us speaks; we simply enjoy the warm air, the salty ocean breeze, and the nearness of one another.

“I don’t want you to feel forced into anything.” I finally break the silence after the last of the lights grow dim behind us.

“Okay,” Zara says.

“Okay?”

Zara stops walking and turns toward me, tipping her head back to look me in the eye. Her fingers are still laced with mine, but she’s too far away. Any time that I’m not buried inside her, there’s too much space between us.

“I’ve spent my life having to do things I didn’t want to. You’ve never made me feel that way. You’ve never taken away my choice or forced me into anything. I didn’t think you’d start now.”

“I sound really noble when you put it like that.”

She grins up at me, but the smile fades. “I don’t want you to feel pressured into doing something you’re not ready for either.”

I step toward her, sliding my free hand around her waist. “What if I wanted that bond? For us. Not just to help out the others. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely a bonus, but that wouldn’t be the only reason I’d do this.”

“What’s the other reason?” Zara’s hand slides up my chest, resting just above my heart.

“You,” I whisper before lowering my head and pressing a kiss to her sweet mouth. Her fingers clutch at my shirt, and I flatten my hand over her lower back, pressing her against me.

The sounds she makes into the kiss have me aching to toss her into the sand and fuck us both senseless. But sand. Fucking sand everywhere.

With a groan, I pull back, another idea taking hold.

“How’s your list been looking lately? Ruby throw any new experiences on there recently?”

“Eat so much ice cream I puke, but I told her that was a definite no from me.”

I laugh and roll my eyes. “I have one that we can add and check off right now.”

Zara looks back toward the glowing lights of downtown, then at me. “Here?”

I throw my head back with a laugh that starts in my belly and comes out loud. It takes me a second to get myself under control. “Not what I was talking about, sweetheart, but good to know for future reference.”

Zara pokes my side and pouts up at me. “What were you talking about, then?” Then she mumbles under her breath, “Only be so lucky in the future.”

I can’t stop smiling at her. Leaning down to murmur in her ear, my hand slides down to squeeze her perfect ass, making her sigh into me. “I think it’s time for a skinny dip.”

When I pull back, Zara licks her lips and takes a step away from me. She pulls her dress over her head with one brisk move and drops it on the sand. Zara occasionally still gets hung up on a turn of phrase, but it’s obvious she knows what I’m talking about.

I hurry to rip off my own shirt, nearly tripping when I kick off my shoes and try to get my pants and boxer briefs down all at the same time. I groan when Zara loses her panties, her sandals abandoned in the sand.

She moves toward the water, giving me the sexiest look over her shoulder as she waits for me to catch up. I run toward her, scooping her up in my arms as I sprint into the water.

“Fuck,” I shout and Zara squeals when we splash through the water. It’s only up to my knees, but holy shit, I forgot how damn cold the ocean is.

“I take it back. I don’t need to check this off my list.” Zara’s arms are tight around my neck as though she’s afraid I’m going to toss her and run. Hell, she might not be wrong. It’s fucking freezing.

“Don’t look at my dick. Things are not being fairly represented at the moment.”
