“Right, of course. How many thieves have you seen walking around with bookshelves in their arms, Hannanah?”

“They could take the whole trailer…and my books are in there too.”

“It’s locked onto my Jeep, which isn’t running at the moment.”

“Yeah, it’s not running, so Shelby is fine,” I say. Seth opens his mouth to make a retort, but he’s cut off by Millie.

“Wait. Is Shelby your Jeep?” Millie asks, her eyebrows lowered as she tries to figure out the situation.

“I still don’t like it,” I say.

“I’m very confused,” Millie says.

“You and me both,” Jameson adds. “Slow down and tell us what’s going on. Did y’all get into a crash? Is that how you got all scraped up?” Jameson’s eyes rove over my face and legs.

Seth explains the situation to Jameson, and then we all load up into Jameson’s truck. He drops me and Millie off at Colby’s house where we get the kittens settled in my room for the night. Tomorrow, I’ll go get them everything they need from the pet store. Seth and Jameson head out to Seth’s truck with a multitude of tools and flashlights. Jameson tried to convince him to go out there tomorrow, but he can’t bear the thought of Shelby out there, vulnerable and all alone for the whole night. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Men are weird about their vehicles. I’m starting to think that my biggest competition for Seth’s attention is his Jeep, not other women. I can deal with a Jeep…I think.
