Lana

I was dressed and sittingback behind my desk when Joseph strode into our office, closing the door behind him. He shook his head at me. “You just can’t resist working, can you?” He asked me.

My cheeks flushed. “Well, it’s just the financial department sent me back their report, and—”

“Easy.” He told me, stopping me from rambling. It was a nervous habit, one he had obviously picked up on. He walked around my desk, gripped my chin, and pulled my lips up to his. “The HR problem has been solved, and your job is safe and secure.” He assured me.

I breathed a sigh of relief, relaxing at that news. “It’s not that I don’t enjoy or regret being with you, Joseph. I’ve dreamed of this for so long. I just— I need my job—”

“Shh.” He soothed. “I know, trust me.” My desk phone rang, cutting him off from saying anything else. He rolled his eyes as I shot him a sheepish smile for him being interrupted. It was one of his biggest pet peeves. He interrupted everyone else; I’d honestly gotten used to him doing it. But he hated when he was interrupted.

I quickly picked up the phone. “Mr. Russo’s office. Lana speaking. How can I help you?”

“It’s Lawrence, his attorney. I need him on the phone.”

I rolled my eyes, putting the call on hold. “It’s your annoying ass attorney.” I told Joseph.

Joseph grinned at me. “He’s a damn good attorney, though, baby girl.” He pressed a kiss to my forehead before walking over to his desk and picking up his phone. Tuning out his conversation, I turned towards my computer, printing out the new report and sliding it into a manila folder so it was separated from everything else on my desk so Joseph could look through it.

I then began flipping through Joseph’s schedule, printing out the documents that he would need for his meeting that afternoon with a potential client. If he secured the deal, it would not only gain him control of that company, but it would also gain him a few million dollars. The client was desperate to hand over control of his company, but he was iffy about who to hand it over to.

I walked over to Joseph’s desk with both folders in my hand as he hung up his phone call with Lawrence. “Good news.” Joseph told me, spinning around in his chair to face me. “The company policy has been changed.” He reached out and took the folders from my hands, dropping them onto his desk before he grabbed my wrists and yanked me down onto his lap. I dropped onto his legs with a squeak of surprise, my hands clutching his shoulders. “Which means I want the next step of this with you.”

“What step?” I squeaked, still shocked by how bold he was.

He brushed his lips with mine. “I’ve been waiting for you for two fucking years, baby – been in love with you for just as long.” My cheeks warmed as my heart swelled in my chest. “I want you to move in with me. I want to put a ring on your finger. I want your name on a marriage certificate with mine.”

I stared up at him with wide eyes. The idea had my soul almost to bursting point, but my mind was reeling. This was so fast. Joseph was a calculating man – never made moves without first weighing every single pro and con, without mulling over the idea for a while first.

So, while I was over the moon for this and I wanted to agree without hesitation, it was alarming that he wanted this all so fast.

“You’re sure this is what you want?” I asked him.

He nodded, pressing his hand to my belly. “Besides, I’m pretty sure you might be knocked up.” He added. Tears blurred my vision, but I wasn’t upset. He looked so accepting of the fact that I might be pregnant, and I was pretty sure I also could see a note of hopefulness in his eyes. “I want it all with you, Lana. Please agree. Please say yes.” He reached into his desk drawer and pulled out a black velvet box, flipping it open to reveal a stunning, simple diamond ring. It was clear it was very expensive but not flashy. My tears slid down my cheeks.

The ring was absolutely perfect, and it was clear he had taken in my likes and dislikes as he chose the ring. He had known I wouldn’t want anything flashy.

“Please agree to be my wife.” He begged me. I turned to look at him. “I don’t care if you want to continue living in your apartment until we’re married. I’ll suck it up and deal with it. But please, Lana – marry me, baby.”

I nodded and cupped his face in my hands, pressing my lips to his. He kissed me back, deepening the kiss so erotically that he had me moaning, arching my back into him, desperate for him to take me again.

“Fuck, woman.” He growled.

“Joseph.” I moaned as he ran his lips over my neck.

He pulled back and pulled the ring out of the box, sliding it onto my finger. Then, he stood up and laid me out over his desk, his fingers already working on the buttons of my blouse.

“I can’t get enough of you.” He growled.

I arched my back as his hands slid up my belly to my bra covered chest. “Perfection.” He rumbled.

“Yours.” I breathed.

A primal noise sounded from deep in his chest, his dark eyes clashing with mine. “Always mine.”
