CHAPTER TWO

The door shut with a heavy thud on Blythe's exit from the library indicating she wasn't much happier with how that had gone than Tor was.

That had not gone as he'd expected.

At all.

Apparently off the charts sexual attraction was not enough for a woman who saw him as little more than a child.

Tor's childhood had been curtailed at age six when his mother died and was completely over when his brother took over as sovereign, leaving Tor to navigate his world without any adult playing any kind of real parental role in his life. At twenty-two, he was hardly on the cusp of adulthood, and he felt far older.

His life had required maturity from him from a very early age.

How strange that the woman he'd taken such pains to learn everything he could about, knew him so superficially. It felt surreal.

Tor settled into one of the chairs in the cozy setting he'd arranged and wondered why he'd gone to the effort.

He didn't know how long he stared into the fire before a knock sounded at the door.

Thinking it might be Blythe coming back for some reason, he straightened his posture and said, "Come in."

But it was Else's concerned features that showed as the door opened.

She took in the untouched food and champagne and frowned. "She didn't even sit down and visit with you?"

They both knew who she was. Else was his best friend and knew things he'd never told anyone else.

"I'm too young. Too spoiled. Too unimportant to risk her friendship with Janne for."

"She said all that?" Else asked with disbelief.

"Yes."

"What a b-one-t-charlie. She could have just said she wasn't that into you."

"She didn't deny being into me."

Else winced. "Ouch."

"Want a strawberry?" he asked her. "You can tell me how your own doomed love life is going."

Else growled. "Mother and Father are all set on marrying me off as some kind of eighteenth century chattel making an advantageous match."

He poured his friend a glass of champagne, an idea forming. "Here, drink this."

"Gladly." She gulped down the five-thousand-dollar bubbly like it was water and shoved the glass toward him for a refill. "More."

Blythe felt like a mean girl for the first time in her life and she didn't like that feeling at all. She owed Tor a huge apology. She'd been fighting her attraction for him from the moment they entered the study.

Want him? She craved the blond hottie like a drug.

And that was not okay.

Blythe had once thought she wanted to be with a man whose kiss made her stupid. That was before she realized just how attracted she was to the youngest Tapt Oyerian prince. With his muscle honed body, gorgeous grey eyes and chiseled jaw that just screamed Old Norse royalty, he was definitely her catnip.

The kind that left her reeling and bumping into walls if she wasn't careful. This out of control feeling was not pleasant. It was scary.

Eight years her junior, he wasn't ready to settle down. Blythe wasn't sure she was either, but she had a feeling that she could fall in love with Tor, and there was no way they could ever have anything lasting.
