“Maybe, but it’s true. And I love New York.” She carried on, obliterating my flimsy excuses. “I’d be happy to come visit you. Especially if it meant I was visiting the version of you that I started to see peeking out these last few weeks since you met Sadie, and not the grumpy asshole exterior you’ve been hiding behind for the last five years.”

Damn.My sister was delivering unfiltered truths tonight.

But she wasn’t wrong. The only thing stopping me from going after Sadie was…me.

“What if she doesn’t want me?”

Yup, Sadie had definitely changed me. The old me never would have asked that question out loud.

Val patted my knee. “Then at least you’ll know. You’ll have said your piece and you’ll have some closure.”

“What have you got to lose?” Paul asked. “If she says no, you won’t be any worse off than you are now.”

They were right. I had to go to her. I had everything to lose if I let myself stay stuck in place here.
