That was absolutely not what I was expecting. He thinks he’s not giving me what I need? God, he’s giving me everything. If anything, I’d be afraid I’m not good enough for him. He has to share me with his friends? Doesn’t even get me to himself? What kind of selfish person does that? And here he is, wondering if he’s not giving me enough in the bedroom?

“Do you hear me complaining, Jonah? Because I certainly don’t. I love the way you treat me. You should become a little more selfish if you ask me. And maybe dial the torture outside of the bedroom down a little.”

“Torture outside of the bedroom?”

“You call it workout, I call it torture. Po-tay–to, poh-ta-to.”

He laughs while his pretty green eyes find me, even if there’s still a hint of hesitancy there. “Really, no complaining?”

“No complaining. Except for the torture thing. Totally complaining about that.” I struggle to find the words I want to say next. Besides the obvious lack of oxygen, I don’t know how to get the words out of me. So I just close my eyes, pant - because fuck running and working out - and just say them. “Do you have any complaints that I should know about?”

He finally stops running and starts walking again. Now, when I say walking, it’s like he’s speed walking, because, damn, that boy is fast. He’s not even breaking a sweat while I’m half dead.

If I’d audiation for The Walking Dead right now, I’d be cast immediately without having to go through the make-up department. It’s the point where I just give up, and let myself fall on the lawn of the house I happen to be standing in front of. I don’t care that it’s private property, the grass looks soft and comfortable and lying down is a hell of a lot more pleasantly than keeping walking. Jonah snorts.

“You have a lot more stamina in the bedroom than when you’re working out.”

“Different muscles,” I deadpan.

He sits himself down on the grass beside me with a chuckle. While I’m lying down like I’m about to make a snow angel, he sits up with his knees up and his legs wide. His arms rest on his knees and he looks like he hasn’t just been tortured. Fucking fit asshole.

“No complaining for real. Not in the bedroom, not outside of it.”

We fall into a comfortable silence, while we just stare a little. Jonah seems to be lost in thought, I seem to be having difficulty staying alive.

“I never thought I’d have this, you know?” he says as he watches Misses Pwaltzer bike by and waves at her.

“What’s this?” I ask.

“Someone to be serious about. A girl to build a future with. Having a family. Not in the like, have a baby kind of family, but in the… we belong together kind of way. You, the guys. I’ve never felt more right than I feel at this point in my life.”

A smile covers my face. “It’s like all the pieces seem to fit.”

“Yeah, that kind of sappy shit seems to apply.”

The comfortable silence returns again.

“Okay, how about I give you a real workout?” I ask as I waggle my eyebrows at him.

“What have you gotten in mind?” he asks with a side smirk as he pushes a strand of his dark hair back from his forehead.

“Well, it seems this workout is a little too easy for you. So how about you walk us back while you give me a piggyback ride?”

I give him my best innocent look, sure I’m able to pull it off with my big gray eyes and hair that looks like I’m just fucked - fucked up by the workout that is. He laughs.

“One condition,” he finally gives in, holding one finger up to me, barely able to hide the smile from his voice.

“Is this going to be bad?”

“Nah, I just need you to yell yee-haw every few seconds.”

An unwilling laugh leaves my mouth. “Deal.”

He gets up and sticks his hand out for me to grab, pulling me off of the soft and soothing grass blanket like it’s nothing. Turning his back to me, I jump on, while his strong hands wrap around the back of my thighs.

“Giddy up!”

He snorts as he starts moving. “Giddy up isn’t a yee-haw. You owe me a yee-haw.”
