My stomach turns. I don’t want to, but I guess I have to. I echo O’s sigh. “Sure.”

“Mor?” he asks.

“Yeah?”

“Be safe, okay?”

“I will. Love you.”

“Love you too,” he says before he ends the call. Dean gives me a certain look I can’t quite seem to place, so I raise an eyebrow in question.

“He gets an I love you without bringing you cookies?”

I chuckle. “He drove our stalker into a ravine, I think he’s earned some brownie points.”

“Brownie points and cookies are not the same.”

“True,” I admit when I press a kiss to his mouth. “The cookies are awesome, though. I love them too. Love all around today.”

“Except for that woman,” Dean says, his eyes falling on the door again.

“True again.” I look up at the ceiling, releasing yet another sigh. “Now I gotta make a phone call to that FBI agent, and I don’t want to.”

With his thumb on my lip he forces me to look him in the eye. “I’ll make you a deal,” he tells me. “You go make that phone call, and once you’re done I’ll take you to the backroom.”

My temperature rises, and I can feel my ears turning red.

“Get your mind out of the gutter, Pike. I’ve got more cookies in the back. But if you want to go back there for anything else, I’m all ears.” He gives me a toothy grin, practically challenging me to take him to the back and do something dirty to him. Which I just might. I think the look on my face changes, because he suddenly gets all bossy.

“Go make that call,” he growls.

I just waggle my brows at him before I grab my phone and start searching for Agent Sanders phone number.

We went to Dominium after Dean’s shift at Roots ended. Dominium isn’t open yet, but it’s not that big of a stretch for us to be there before opening. I’ve called Agent Sanders, and he’s agreed to meet us here being let in by Gil through the back entrance. Chances of anyone noticing and thinking something is going on are slim this way.

I hate everything about it.

When we enter Dominium the agents are sitting down at the bar already, talking to Gil, who is pouring them drinks. Well, giving them water bottles. I guess that counts as pouring them drinks. Agent Luta looks over her shoulder as we enter and gives me a smile. I want to answer it, but I can’t get my face to work along. It’s like the muscles are defective.

Dean lays his hand on my lower back, wordlessly encouraging me to walk to the bar. When I finally reach it, Gil leans over the bar and gives me a quick kiss. That seems to fix my laughing muscles, because the corners of my mouth pull up.

“Hey you,” he says as he fixes his kind brown eyes on me. For a moment I forget I’m here to meet with two FBI-agents and drown in the deepness of his look.

“Hey you,” I greet him right back. He starts pouring me a rum and coke when I finally turn to the agents. “Hey, uh, thanks for meeting me,” I say as I find a barstool to sit on. It’s a little weird to all sit side by side to have this conversation, but I can’t remember the last time something felt normal to be honest, so what’s one thing more?

“Thank you for calling us,” Agent Sanders says, his green eyes stern and laser focused on me. Gil gives me my drink, and I down half the glass in one go. Stress is turning me into an alcoholic. “What can you tell us?”

I imagine my courage being like the dirty clothes I left scattered all over the floor when I was a teenager and picking it up in my arms until there’s a huge pile in them. That’s when I find the strength to speak up.

“Miss Lewis, Jonah’s mom, cornered O and me a while back to threaten us and make us work along. In some kind of temporary insanity I figured we could use the houses O sells that are empty as a temporary storing place for their goods. Because the houses are only empty temporarily, they can only be used once, which I figured would be highly attractive to criminals.”

The female agent is nodding her head in confirmation.

“She contacted us again this morning, telling us there will be a shipment in three days. O just gave me an address that we could use. I’ve got a phone number to let them know where they should take the shipment. I don’t know if it’s drugs or people. I know nothing. And to be frank, I want fucking nothing to do with this.”

Then I tip back the rest of the glass, and feel it burning in my stomach. Apparently Gil thought I could use a stiff one as well.

Agent Sanders nods. “Good job. If we can have the address and the phone number we’ll take over. We take in whatever the shipment is and whoever is involved.”
