Page 16 of Betraying Katie

“Ugh. Then I’m putting you in charge of the reunion next decade. I failed big-time because I got lazy.”

“I thought it was nice,” Shelley piped up.

“You hired someone to do it, didn’t you?” Cassandra asked with a wry grin.

“Yes. A start-up company that will not be getting a glowing recommendation from me.”

The locks on the doors snicked closed, and Katie wasn’t even sure if anyone else noticed. She didn’t pay it much mind until the limo turned down an alleyway.

“Wait a minute.” Her gut dropped a bit as she looked up to see the divider between the driver and the back rising. The driver looked at her in the rearview mirror before it completely cut off her view of the front seat.

A sense of panic clawed around vaguely in her stomach at his smirk.

“What the hell?” she gasped out, as Eddie and Anna finally looked up from the bottles of crap in the fridge.

“What’s going on?”

Katie tried to open the door next to her, but as she’d suspected, they were locked in.

Eddie was looking out the window, at a brick wall next to them, when a figure stood in front of him. A glimpse of metal registered just as a bright flash of light and popping noise occurred. Then Eddie was slumped over, Anna was screaming, and her silver dress was suddenly red.

Red.

Blood red.

Katie’s mind was slow to catch up to what was going on. So were Shelley’s and Cassandra’s, as a man opened the door and crawled in with them, followed by another.

It was cramped inside the limo, but one man was holding a gun on the three women, while the other retrieved a syringe.

They were utterly fucked.
