“Two months.”

“In two months, we should go out. Have dinner together and talk. I’m not saying we’ll jump back into buying sex toys to share.” She blushed when she said this, and he was instantly rock hard at the memories that slammed into him. “I’m not even sure we can have a romantic relationship, but something tells me that you’re important to me, and I want to explore that. If nothing else than to get some closure and move on with my life.”

She nodded as she finished, as if she had ticked off a list of boxes of things to address while she’d been here.

“You want to go out with me?” He didn’t think he deserved to even see her again, much less dinner.

She nodded, swinging her horse around to go back to the ranch.

“Okay,” he said, following her, enjoying the view.

Back at the ranch, they dismounted and stood there, facing each other, neither of them knowing what to do next.

Finally, he took a deep breath, about to force the word goodbye out of his mouth. She stopped him by spreading her arms out.

“Hug?”

He scooped her into his arms and crushed her to his chest. “I smell.” He wasn’t apologizing, just warning her, even though it was too late. Her face was in his armpit.

She laughed then, and he felt like everything would be okay.

Somehow.

Some way.

He would make sure of it.
