Oh, skunk. I think I see where this is going. “The ones that led to so much drama that you now avoid ballerinas like the plague?”

He nods solemnly. “One in particular made me take that stance—and, as you might have guessed, it was Alisa.”

I resist the urge to smack my forehead. That makes so much sense. Now that I know, I can’t believe I didn’t suspect it sooner. He slept with her and drama ensued—and she’s clearly still pining for him. Violently. And hey, having slept with him myself, I can sort of understand her—but not forgive.

“Are you mad?” he asks.

Am I? A bit. I hate the idea of him with another woman. Then again, it happened long before we met, and he’s paid for it by having to deal with her brand of crazy.

“I’m more confused than mad,” I say. “If she’s your ex of sorts, why invite her to our reception?”

He sighs again. “I didn’t. She crashed the party. I didn’t want to make a big scene in front of the whole company.” His nostrils flare. “Had I known about the stunt she was going to pull, I would’ve had her escorted out by security.”

Is this a good time to tell him her name is about to become Crusty Vagina? Nah. Might sound like I’m being petty.

I narrow my eyes at him, mostly in jest. “Swear you don’t have feelings for her anymore, and I’ll forget this whole thing.”

“I never had feelings for her in the first place,” he says. “But, speaking of feelings… I need to tell you something.”
