Arabella leaned away then, smiling at Lily. “Good.”

Minutes later, the men arrived back in the room, neither speaking. “Well?” Arabella asked.

“It’s him,” Edge answered first.

Lily looked at Ash, who gave a quick nod of agreement. “What do we do?”

“Go to sleep,” he answered. “As far as he knows, we’re a wedding party, returning from Gretna Green. Any sudden movements might alert him otherwise. The best thing we can do is act as if nothing is wrong.”

“We could leave in the night,” she whispered, that need to run rising in her again. With that man here, she could hardly think straight.

He took two steps to her side and placed an arm around her waist. “It’s going to be all right.”

She let out the air she hadn’t even noticed she’d been holding as she allowed him to pull her from the room. She gave a quick look back in time to see both Edge and Arabella staring at them as they left.

Lily feared she might never sleep, but as they returned to their room and she lay on the bed, Ash tucked his body against hers, wrapping her up in his arms. Pressed against his chest, her fear melted away and she was asleep before she could even whisper good night.
