“I appreciate you seeing reason.”

“Raphael don’t do this again,” I said, my voice lowering. He shrank back but then recovered quickly with a smile.

“I’m looking forward to a long partnership, Mr. Petrosyan.”

I glared at him, and after a moment he shrugged and then left.

I stared at the space he had vacated, my esteem for Amethyst rising that much higher.

To think that she had become who she was even though she was raised by someone like him.

It was a minor miracle, one that I was grateful for.

I left the building feeling somewhat hopeful.

Raphael James was a scumbag, but Amethyst wasn’t.

And somehow, some way, I would figure all this out.

I was anxious to see her. I got in my SUV, then made a call. It was answered on the first ring.

“Yes, boss?”

“Where is Amethyst?”

“You didn’t see her?” The man on the other end of the line sounded surprised.

“No. She left James Industries hours ago.”

“No, she went back. She said she left something in the office. I told her you were there, so she said she would catch a ride with you—”

I gripped the phone tight then forced my hand to relax, worried I would break it, but more worried about where she was.

What she had heard.

My stomach dropped, a feeling much too much like fear washing over me. “Find her. Now!”
