I wouldn’t, not ever, and it pissed me off that he thought I could.

Still, I reassured him. “Elias, wherever I live, whatever name people call me, I’ll never forget that I’m Davit Petrosyan, just like I will never forget what that means,” I said.

He nodded curtly, and though he didn’t smile, I could tell he was pleased.

“Good.”

“I’ll be in touch,” I said.

He waved as he walked away, his shoes clicking on the wood floor.

After he left, I checked the security but didn’t bother asking how he had gotten in or trying to figure it out.

I had a head for gadgets, but Elias was no slouch.

He couldn’t be, not if he wanted to lead the Petrosyan family and stay ahead of the danger that lurked around every corner.

I did my routine checks to ensure that the shipment had been unloaded and delivered where it belonged. But as I worked, my thoughts unwillingly turned back to Amethyst.

I settled at my computer and turned on the screen. A few keystrokes, and an image of Amethyst filled the screen. She’d been so shaken up, it had been easy to plant the camera in her living room. Not strictly necessary, because I was pretty confident she wouldn’t do anything crazy—or crazier than she already had.

But I’d wanted to see her. The real her. Without pretense.

As I watched, I wasn’t so sure that I liked what I saw.

She looked tense.

It radiated off her body as she paced her small living room. She’d pushed her glasses up on top of her head and taken off her jacket and pants. I looked her up and down, lingering on her full thighs, curled my hands as I imagined touching them, imagined how they would feel wrapped tight around my waist as I pounded into her.

I quickly turned off the screen and leaned back in my chair, fighting to regain control of myself.

I smiled.

Today had been unexpected and created problems that I didn’t want to deal with. Despite all that, I was excited.

I’d gotten a glimpse of a side of Amethyst I never thought I’d have a chance to see. She’d done something that so few people in my life ever had.

She’d surprised me.

And I couldn’t wait to see what she would do next.
