I smiled again.

I threw on my shoes, grabbed a light jacket, and walked toward the door.

“Would you prefer to walk or drive?” she asked in that soft voice after we got on the elevator.

“I don’t know. Where are we going?”

“The hotel is at the edge of the business district. About four blocks over there’s a bit of a fashion district. That’s where we’re headed,” she said.

“Can we walk?” I asked.

She nodded. “Davit said that was fine. As long as the men are with us.”

Of course he had.

I scoffed, but when I noticed Kayla slightly widening her eyes, I schooled my expression and then gave her a quick smile.

“Then I’d love a little walk if you’re up for it,” I said.

“Yes, ma’am, Ms. James.”

I laughed. “Ms. James is just as bad as ‘ma’am.’ Why don’t you call me Amy?”

She smiled softly, and I noticed it was a lovely expression.

“Yes, Amy,” she said as we stepped out of the lobby. “This way.” She tilted her head down the block.

“Um,I’m going to assume Davit talked to you about this, but I don’t have any money,” I said as we approached what I gathered was the shopping district.

We were still on the block, but I noticed brightly lit storefronts, and that the atmosphere seemed a little bit different than the more staid area around the hotel.

“Of course. That’s all taken care of.”

“And sizing might be an issue,” I said.

Kayla looked over at me and shook her head. “I’ve made sure the shops we will be visiting will have appropriate items,” she said.

I nodded. “Sounds like you’re on top of it.”

“Yes, ma’am, I mean Amy,” she said with a little laugh.

“So where are we going?”

She looked over at me. “Davit mentioned that you might want new glasses. I provided the prescription to an optometrist. I thought we could pick frames first, and then get clothing while they are being made,” she said.

“Okay,” I responded, not exactly sure how to take that.

“Unless that’s a problem?” She looked at me with her brow arched in question.

I shook my head quickly, reminding myself that so far, Kayla had seemed to be completely in tune with how I was feeling, and that I didn’t want to do anything to offend her or upset her when she was only doing her job.

But there was something I wondered about, but wouldn’t dare ask.

At least not yet.
