He shook his head. “It doesn’t matter. The boss says I’m here, so I’m here,” he said.

Erik was old school, was a third-generation member of the Petrosyan family. I had known him my entire life.

He was one of the best in our family, and the only person I trusted Amethyst with.

“So you don’t take it as a sign of disrespect?”

It was possible that he could.

Erik had been on the front lines, and knew how to handle himself. That he was so good, and so trusted, was part of the reason I had chosen him.

“You know, the excitement is nice, but I’m an old man now. And I know it’s an honor to look after your family,” he said.

“I’ll make sure she doesn’t give you too much trouble,” I said.

He smiled, something that was rare for him, but didn’t speak.

“You don’t think I can do that?” I asked.

He chuckled. “Davit, I think you’re putty in her hands.”

I laughed. “Erik, I think you’re right.”
