Amethyst

“Where are we going?”I asked Davit several weeks later.

We had taken our usual walk, but instead of going back to the hotel, he took a different path.

“There’s something I want to show you,” he said.

“What?” I asked.

“Amethyst, it’s a surprise,” he said.

“Oh,” I responded, smiling.

He looked at me, smiling as well, but I could see concern in his expression. “You’re not too tired?” he said.

“I’m fine,” I said.

I’d wondered if I would ever show, but I was definitely showing now.

It was still small, but the baby bump was undeniable, and the increase in my fatigue was too.

I’d be out of my second trimester soon, and there was no way to deny it, even if I had wanted to.

“Just up here,” he said.

We had passed the park, and he turned down a street, one that looked markedly different.

“It’s so serene here,” I said.

And it was.

The street was tree-lined, the sidewalks wide, greenery everywhere.

It looked like a little oasis, even though I knew that two blocks over, there was a bustling metropolis.

“I think so too,” he responded.

His fingers locked with mine, he led me down another street all the way to the end.

We stopped in front of a small, cottage-style house.

“How cute,” I said.

“It reminded me of your house,” he said.

I smiled. “I think so too.”

Carol and my house were the only things I had missed, and it was nice to be reminded of it.

“Let’s go inside,” he said.

“Davit, we can’t go into somebody’s house,” I said.

He smiled, then kissed me.

“Of course not. But we can go into our house.”
