He looked at me for a long while, then leaned back.

“Should we go to the doctor’s appointment?”

“Yeah,” I responded.

“The baby is growing nicely,”Dr. Mueller said.

“Great. So he is on track?” I said.

“Yes. Perfectly so. You say he. Have you reconsidered finding out the gender?”

I shook my head. “No, I still want it to be a surprise,” I said.

“Very well.”

He had removed the ultrasound wand, and wiped my stomach.

Then I sat up, and he looked at Davit and me.

“So, is everything well?”

“Yeah. I feel fine. He is starting to move a lot, kicking up a storm, but I’m great,” I said.

He nodded. “Very well. I’m going to give you some materials describing what you can expect as you get closer to the birth. Have you considered what you are going to do for care?”

“Care?” Davit said.

“I don’t know your situation, but most of my patients, especially the first-time parents, find it helpful to bring in assistance,” he said.

“I hadn’t thought of that,” I responded.

“Me either,” Davit admitted.

“Well, I’m happy to share some names. I’ve vetted them all personally, and would highly recommend any one of them,” he said.

I looked at Davit, who didn’t look convinced. I wasn’t convinced either. Still, I nodded to the doctor. “Thank you,” I said.

“I’ll see you at your next appointment,” Dr. Mueller said.

When we got back in the SUV, I looked at Davit.

“You would consider that?” I said.

“What? A nanny?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

“I…don’t know,” he said.

“I understand,” I said slowly.

“But?” he asked.

“But, to be honest, I don’t know anything about babies.”
