“No, he did not,” I responded.
Her eyes softened, and she leaned back in the chair, the tension that had been in her body moments ago fading. “But he’s a good man,” she said.
“I know,” I responded.
I noticed her gaze lingering on Crystal and decided in that moment I knew where I wanted to go.
Knew the path that I hoped my life would take.
“So I think it’s time you and your granddaughter had a proper introduction,” I said, smiling at her through tears.
She looked at me, her own tears moistening her eyes. Then she gave me a gentle smile. “I’d like that very much,” she whispered.
