“Are you ready?” Elias asked, less than an hour after we’d arrived.

We had stopped at a hotel, changed, and were preparing to go.

“Thanks for getting this all together, Kayla,” I said instead of answering Elias. Between the ride from the meet with Isaac and back to the safe house, she had arranged travel to Amsterdam and accommodations for when we arrived.

“Don’t thank her for doing her job,” Elias said.

Like always, Kayla ignored him. “You’re welcome, Davit. Anything you need,” she said.

I nodded, sharing a moment of solidarity with her over Amethyst and Crystal, and then, after adjusting my tie, headed to the door.

Davit

“Have some. It’s the best on the continent,” Seamus said, nodding at the mountain of white powder on the table in front of him.

“No thanks,” I responded, trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice.

“More for me, then,” he said.

He neatly and meticulously separated two lines, snorted them, then looked at me.

“What do you think of my club?” he asked, barely audible over the thumping music.

I didn’t think anything about the club, didn’t give a fuck if the club fell off the face of the fucking earth, but I couldn’t say that.

Instead, I nodded, gave something that I hoped approximated a smile.

“It’s great.” I said.

“It’s better than great. It is an amusement park for adults. You can find anything and everything you might want here for the taking,” Seamus said.

“And lucrative, I presume?” Elias asked.

He had been steadily trying to steer us toward business all evening, but Seamus was having none of it.

At least not so far.

“Not yet. You know the initial investment hasn’t paid off yet. But it will. You’ll have to come back one day, see more of what we have to offer,” Seamus said.

“Perhaps, but—” Elias started, but Seamus cut him off.

“But I know you’re not here to look at whores or get drugs. You think I’m behind what happened with your kid, Davit?”

“Are you?” I asked.

“William, what do you say?” He gestured toward his brother, who stood off to the side, and thus far, hadn’t contributed to the conversation.

“I don’t know, Seamus. Are you behind it?”

“Look, Seamus, you know the situation, so you know I don’t have time for games,” I interrupted.

I was probably pushing things, but if he didn’t stop fucking around, I was going to break his jaw.

And that wouldn’t help my cause.

So maybe reminding him of the urgency would get my point across before we got to the point of no return.
