“I’d liketo go visit Paulette and Erik,” I said later that afternoon.

Davit smiled at me. “Wait one second,” he said.

I did, and when he came back, he was wearing the baby carrier with Crystal tucked inside.

“Are you ready to go?”

I smiled, the image of my genius, dangerous, incredibly handsome husband wearing a baby carrier seeming impossible and impossibly endearing.

But I knew that it wasn’t impossible.

Because we were family and this was our life.

I tickled Crystal’s foot when I walked by then grabbed my shoes.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“They are three floors down. The bottom floors are set aside for medical purposes,” he said as he walked to the door.

“Huh,” I said.

“What does that mean?” he asked as we got to the door.

“I thought…”

“What?” Davit said.

“I thought normal people lived here,” I said.

“Well, I think they would say they are normal, but they are all associates of the Petrosyan family, if that’s what you’re asking,” he said.

“So you have the whole building?”

“Yeah. It is safer that way, less questions,” he said.

“Makes sense,” I responded.

When we left, Elias was entering the apartment across the hall.

“What the fuc—hel—”

He shook his head and started over.

“What is that thing strapped to your chest?”

“That thing is your niece,” Davit said.

“Don’t be stupid, Davit. What is that contraption you’re wearing?”

“This contraption is a baby carrier. It allows me to walk around with the baby and still have my hands free,” Davit said.

Elias shook his head.

“You want me to get you one?”
