“You need more rest,” he said, his voice soft, his concern for me as clear as his worry for Crystal.

I didn’t need that concern, didn’t deserve it, so I met his eyes, hoping my resolve was clear.

“We need to find my baby. Let’s go to Erik.”

“I don’t think—” Elias started, but he cut off when I looked at him. He then looked at Davit, and then, to my surprise, he relented.

We walked out to the SUV. Once we were inside, Davit looked at me.

“Amethyst, this might not be pretty,” he warned.

No warning was necessary.

“I don’t care about pretty. All I care about is her and getting her back. Whatever it takes,” I said.

He nodded, and I hoped he understood.

Really understood.

Nothing, no one, mattered more than her.

And I would do whatever it took to get her back.
