I shook my head, not wanting to talk about it, but knowing Elias wouldn’t let this go until I did.

“I also don’t want to put them in more danger,” I said.

It was true that I wanted to make sure the right people suffered for kidnapping Crystal, but I also had a hesitancy, a fear that hadn’t been there before. And I had to confront the reality that the things I did—the things my family did—would affect them.

“Davit, this life is danger. You know that. And as much as making a move might be a risk, doing nothing is worse. We must get our vengeance, and others must see that we did,” Elias said.

“I know,” I said. “And the crimes against my family will not go unanswered. But there’s more to consider now. The stakes are higher. If something happens to you and me, there’s no one to protect them, so we have to be smarter, stronger, faster. We have to be better, Elias.”

He nodded. “I agree. And we will. And you know the best way to ensure something like this never happens again?”

We spoke at the same time. “Blood.”

Elias gave me a smile. “One of the rare times I will admit that Father was right. Blood must flow.”

“It must,” I said, “and as long as it belongs to the right people, I’ll be satisfied.”

“Good. Then it’s settled. We’ll meet Isaac as planned,” Elias said.

I could hardly wait.

“How was it?”I asked later that night.

Crystal was sleeping, and after a quiet dinner, Amethyst and I were lying in bed, finally ready to talk.

“Amazing. And terrible,” she responded.

I smiled. “Okay. Explain,” I said.

“She’s real, and I can’t believe it. Part of me is so happy. That little girl who wanted her so badly, the one who missed her every day. She’s happy,” Amethyst said.

“But?”

“But…I’m just so angry. I know it wasn’t her fault. But she left me, created this hole that I didn’t think anything would ever fill,” she said.

Then she looked at me, her expression one of deep regret.

“I feel terrible talking to you about this,” she whispered.

“Why?”

“Your mother. You know what it’s like not to have her. Through some miracle, I have mine now, but I’m complaining,” she said.

I hugged her tight then pulled back to look in her eyes.

“Amethyst, I’ve made my peace. And I would never begrudge you this. I dreamed of the same thing, and I don’t resent you because you got it. I’m just happy for you. And I want you to know that I am with you, no matter what,” I said.

She kissed me then, and I kissed her back.

Like always, the need to have her, to be as close as humanly possible, took me over.

And from the way she touched me, she felt the same. She hugged me tight, then stroked her hands down my body, her touch both exciting and familiar. I huffed out when she wrapped her hand around my cock and stroked my shaft.

I shifted until I was on top of her and watched as she stroked my length up, down, then up again until I was throbbing against her palm.

When I kissed her, the tension, the uncertainty, everything but her disappeared, and when I entered her, I knew again I had found my home.
