“I don’t know about any of this, Blake.”

“I don’t want you to worry,” he said. “I’ll take care of everything.”

“Can I talk to my mom first?”

He shook his head. “There might not be time, pet. But I guarantee she’ll be okay with our marriage.”

She studied his dark eyes. “We don’t know anything about each other. I know nothing about you. I don’t even know how old you are, your favorite color, or your middle name.”

He grinned. “I’m forty-three, my favorite color is blue, and my middle name is Stephan.”

“You know you’re twenty years older than me?” If she thought that would bother him, she was wrong. He just grinned.

“I guarantee I can keep up with you, so you don’t have to worry about that. Now tell me about you.”

“I’m twenty-three, my favorite color is red, and my middle name is Eleanor.”

“We’ve got plenty of time to get to know one another,” he said.

“I have one more question.”

“Okay.”

“Have you had a lot of girlfriends?” She could feel herself blush, and she had no idea why she blurted that out, but the thought of him being with hundreds of women made her sick.

He studied her for a moment. “What’s in the past stays there.”

“But you know I have no experience.”

“I know you’re a virgin, yes.”

“Have you had a lot of virgins in your bed?”

“I’ve never had a woman in my room, and you’ll be my one and only virgin, pet, and the only woman I’ll ever have in my bed. I don’t want you to think about this anymore.”

She sighed and nodded. By the tone of his voice, she knew that was the only answer she’d get right then, so she let it go.

“Good girl. I’ve got to go, but I’ll be back. By the way, you’ll get to meet a few of my brothers and cousins tonight at dinner.” He kissed her one last time before he lifted her off his lap.

She watched him walk out of the room and suddenly felt more alone than before and didn’t understand it.
