Page 4 of Losing Hope

“What’s going to happen to my men?” she asked.

“They’ll be fine,” Graham said.

She nodded and stared down at the hand that held hers in her lap. It was twice the size of hers and dark with black hair on the back and protruding veins and tendons. It was a very masculine hand with a great deal of strength.

They pulled up to a huge house and stopped.

“Where are we?” she asked.

“We’re home, pet.”

She nodded and looked around but could see very little because it was so dark, and she was so tired.

The front door closed behind them.

“I’m going up to bed,” Graham said. “I’ll see you both in the morning. I’ll have Faith there as soon as she’s ready. I want her to get as much sleep as she can.”

“Where is my room?”

“I already told you, you’re in my room,” Blake said.

She tried to pull away from him. “Now, wait a minute.”

Graham chuckled. “I’ll let you deal with this.”

She didn’t watch him walk away but faced Blake.

Blake grabbed her shoulders. “Listen, Hope, we are doing everything we can to keep you safe, and this is part of it.”

“Why can’t I sleep with my sister?”

Blake snorted. “I doubt Graham would allow you in their bed, pet. Let’s go.” He pulled her along, up some stairs and down a few hallways.

Jesus, the place was massive.

“How many people live here?” she asked.

Blake shrugged. “I have no idea.”

She was shocked. “Really?”

“Yes. I know most of the servants, and a few guards live in one wing of the house. Then there are the little cabins out back that the gardeners live in. We have cousins who have their own rooms here but don’t sleep there all the time.”

“How many brothers do you have?”

“Six.”

“Really?”

“Yes. We don’t all have the same mom, and I’ll explain that later. Right now, I need to get you into a shower and bed. You’re so tired, you’re about ready to keel over.”

“I can’t sleep because I worry about my family a lot.”

“I know. I do, too.” He led her into the bathroom and threw a towel over a hook outside of the shower. “Can you put your hair up, so it doesn’t get wet?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll get you something to wear tonight and worry about getting you clothes tomorrow,” he said.
