“I might come to yours later if I can get away,” Julian says and kisses her. Then he turns and leaves.

Parks pauses — thinking, trying to figure it out. She glances back at me a bit confused then gives me a small shrug and goes back to the living room.

“Oi,” I call to Jo, nodding him over to me. “What the fuck’s going on?”

“Nothing, man.” He’s being dismissive. He’s also lying.

I stare at him for a few seconds. “Is something wrong?”

Jonah shakes his head but I don’t buy it.

“Is she in danger?”

Jonah rolls his eyes. “No, bro. You think I’d ever let anything happen to her?”

“Jo—”

“I’m gonna stay at theirs, Jules is going to leave some boys out front.”

“What the fuck is going on?”

He shakes his head again. “Precautions.”

I stare at him. Precautions for what?

Fuck. I feel sick.

“Should I go with her?”

If she’s in danger I need to be with her.

He shakes his head at me. “I’m handling it, Beej. It’s fine.”
