Turning to the crowd gathered around us, I yell, “Alright, who is he? Why are all of you staring at him like he’s someone special and not just some rich prick who decided to slum it tonight?”

A few people snicker until they see the seriousness on my face, and then they quiet back down.

Tank leans in close to me and I smell weed and booze lingering around him. “This is Micah Lee. His father is part of the Antoni Mafia Family. Baby girl, you just started a war with the devil,” Tank says into my ear.

A shudder runs through me as his words register in my brain. I had been so lost in my own anger and emotions, that I didn’t even bother to find out who he was. Now that I know, I realize that my night just went from bad to worse. The Antoni Mafia Family is Savannah’s most notorious crime family. They rule the streets and everyone who they encounter bows down to them. They aren’t just a family—they are a kingdom.

A kingdom that rules Savannah with an iron fist and takes no mercy. Yeah, I had heard the rumors and stories about the Antoni Mafia Family, but I never thought I would find myself at the mercy of one of their children. Why was my life so miserable? I swear, I couldn’t catch a break.

“So, what if I am part of the Antoni Mafia Family. That doesn’t have anything to do with what I’m doing here tonight,” Micah says, glaring daggers my way.

I see how everyone adoringly looks at him like he is some god. I can’t help but dislike him even more knowing that he isn’t just rich, but royalty, too.

“It has everything to do with you being here. Look around, the people that live here don’t just race to have fun. This is our livelihood,” I say, waving my hands around me.

A few people nod in agreement, but none actually say anything. They are too afraid. I see it in their eyes, and it makes me sick.

“You can keep the money, I don’t need it,” Micah says, like that makes him some knight in shining armor.

Shaking my head, I refuse to be some charity case for this guy. It doesn’t work that way around here. We all earn our money-- it isn’t just handed to us like it is in his world. “No way. I may need the money, but I won’t take it like this,” I say, shoving past him.

He barely moves as I push him. As I make my way back over to my bike, I feel hot tears forming in my eyes, but I won’t let them fall here. I won’t give Micah the satisfaction of knowing he hurt me. Jumping on my bike, I throw on my helmet and speed away. As I drive back toward the trailer park, I allow my tears and raw emotion to finally consume me.

Somehow, I have to find a way to get that money.
