“So, what’s the problem then?” she questions.

I know that I might as well continue. I’m not in the mood for Gabby to ask me a million questions. “I went down to the warehouse district and raced a track there,” I began, sitting up and slowly opening my eyes. “When I won, this chick named, Stella, lost her temper and started screaming at me.”

“Micah, isn’t that the normal for you? I mean, you tend to upset the ladies when you love them and eave them,” she scoffs.

I hang my head low and stare at the concrete beneath my bare feet. The sun is blazing on my skin and I feel like I’m on fire now. “This was different. She was mad because of the money, not the title of winner. Apparently, she needed the money really bad,” I say.

That strange feeling in the pit of my stomach returns and I desperately feel the need to go grab some alcohol or weed. I hate this and want nothing more than to numb any of that away.

“Your first mistake was going down to that part of Savannah. Around here, people care about status and money. In the poverty-stricken areas of Savannah, it’s all about survival. I’ve dealt with a few guys from that area, and I know how different it may seem. Almost like you’ve traveled to another world. Money doesn’t come easy for everyone and what you did was take away her means for survival,” Gabby explains.

If I didn’t feel like shit before, I certainly do now. I’ve never been ashamed of anything in my life. But right now, for some strange reason, I feel ashamed of coming from a good home and life. I don’t have to fight for what I have. The battle for the kingdom I so much enjoy was fought for me by my father and the other members of the Antoni Mafia Family.

“Damn, this is really messed up,” I sigh.

“Well, what are you going to do about it?” she asks me.

“Nothing,” I say, shrugging my shoulders. “What can I do?”

“Give her the money. That girl obviously needs it more than you do,” Gabby insists.

She’s right; but I have no idea how to give the money to Stella. I don’t know anything about her other than she hates me and has a fiery temper. And... she’s hot as hell. I had never seen someone as beautiful as she was. Even when she was screaming at me, I couldn’t help but notice her plump, perfect lips and the way her jeans hugged her thin waist. Shaking my head, I try to fight my body from reacting to her. We came from different worlds and besides, she clearly hated everything that I represented. Not that I could blame her now that I think about it.

“I don’t know where she lives,” I try and argue.

Gabby stands and throws her pink sequin cover up over her body. “How did you find out about the race in the first place?” she asked, placing a hand on her hip.

“A guy at one of my races gave me the number of Tank. He’s in charge of organizing the races and taking bets,” I tell her.

“Ok, contact him. Man, Micah. For someone with such good grades, you are pretty dumb. Use your head. Reach out to that Tank guy. Get her address and then return the money.”

I let Gabby’s insult slide for now. As much as I hate to relive any of the events from last night, I know that this is the right thing to do. Even if Stella wouldn’t take the money from me, maybe I could leave it in her mailbox or something once I got her address. If I made this right, maybe this shitty feeling would go away.

“Fine, I’ll text him now,” I say, grabbing my phone that was lying on top of my pool towel.

I type out the text quickly and then fall back in the chair again. Gabby begins to stomp away, and I have no doubt that she’s going to find Ason and Talon and share my situation with them. She pauses right before she walks inside the back door of the house. Turning, she gives me a serious look.

“Micah, whatever happens, don’t let this girl or anyone stop you from doing what’s right for our family. You have to start thinking about your future and the casino,” she tells me, then stomps inside, allowing the thick, heavy door to slam behind her.

Shaking my head, I throw myself back onto the lounge chair. I refuse to allow some chick to get into my head like this. Regardless of what anyone says, I am going to get rid of this money, Stella, and any sense of caring for her that I feel.I have a future to think about and it doesn’t involve Stella.
