“No, no, not like that.”

Had the magi kept her hidden her entire life? Even with my leg keeping a slight distance between us, the tension grew until sweat slid down the back of my neck. “You are the first human who has shown me any decency in the past few decades. I had forgotten how fresh air feels in my lungs, or how big the sky truly is, I was robbed of the setting sun’s beauty, sitting alone in the darkness of my cell trying to remember the moon in a starlit sky, and right now, none of it compares to the way you are looking at me.”

“You think I’m beautiful?”

I reached up and brushed her cheek with my thumb. “I do.”

Her face flushed red and then I was thrown on my back.

“Kelia!”

She leaned over me with that magical lasso of hers, holding my hands above my head, pinning me to the floor.

“What are you doing?” I yanked on the restraints, glaring at my captor. “Release me.”

“No.” Slowly, she came closer to my face, her nose almost grazing mine.“Do you think I’m a fool? That your clever words could trick me? Do you think you can flatter me to win your freedom?”

The closeness, and my current position, made my body heat. If she touched me anymore, I would make a fool out of myself. “No, it was a compliment.”

A rose hue tainted her pale cheeks, and I couldn’t decide if she was angry or excited, either way I was about to lose control. I bit my lip to stop myself from doing anything embarrassing, causing it to bleed. What Kelia and the magi didn’t know was that I wasn’t just a dark fae, I was something else, and if this female kept prodding, she’d awaken the beast within.

“You’re bleeding.” She wiped my mouth with her finger, making me tremble under her touch. “What is the matter with you?”

“Please,” I begged. “Let me out of these magical handcuffs and let me go to sleep. Don’t we need to leave early?”

At this point I would say just about anything to get her away from me. The desire coursing through my body was unlike any I’d encountered before, more than just a needed release from being locked up for so long. I wanted her in an animalistic way. Her scent, her touch, all of it drove me mad with need.

The pressure on my hands released and she moved away.

“You can’t leave this shack,” she said, standing and dusting off her dress. “If you need to relieve yourself, wake me, and I’ll release the barrier for you. We leave at dawn.”

With a nod, I rolled onto my side, watching her walk to her bedroll and thanking the All Father that nothing else transpired here tonight.

Kelia was an insane woman, and her madness was beginning to engulf me whole.
