The silence stretched between us until she finally stood, gathering the front of her skirt. My heart raced as she moved closer and I held my breath, wondering what her little mind was thinking.
She squatted in the corner over the chamber pot.
If she hadn’t still been holding my gaze, I might’ve been a little less uncomfortable. “This isn’t a vacation for either of us.”
“If you want privacy, I can leave.” I shifted my gaze from her unusual antics. She wasn’t shy, or ladylike. Everything she did was unexpected. There had to be an angle.
“No need. You and I are bound to each other on this trip, and I’m not letting you out of my sight.”
With that, I gave her a smirk. “Are we to be bathing partners then?”
No change in her demeanor, not even the slightest flush in her cheeks. Instead, she narrowed her gaze. “This mission is a top priority. If we need to bathe, then you will do so in front of me. You are not leaving my sight.”
She finished with the chamber pot and stood. “If you’re uncomfortable, you may close your eyes.”
I laughed at that.“Don’t flatter yourself, darling. I have seen my share of naked females. There is no mystery to uncover.”
Kelia folded her arms, her face as hard as the floor I sat on. “Then it is settled.”
I shook my head. “Are you sure you’re up for this mission?”
Her eyes glowed an eerie blue and the surrounding air tingled. I waited for a reply, but she just sat there glaring at me until I was the uncomfortable one. She had eyes that were so bright and wide they were hypnotizing me into a state of stupor. That or I had been in prison much too long.
“Sleep.” She climbed into the bed and tugged the blanket over her shoulder.
Kelia may have been young, but anyone who could fall asleep with an unchained prisoner in a room was either out of their mind or extremely dangerous.
I’d yet to figure out which side she tilted toward.
