I couldn’t believe it was working.

A groan sounded from the prince and the queen leaned by his head, wiping his forehead with a cloth. “This is almost over.”

Mab whined and I went to her. Sweat slipped down her forehead. I placed my hands on her shoulders. “What can I do? How can I help?”

Kelia met my gaze. “You’re doing it.”

The oozing black floated in the air, contained by Kelia and Mab’s magic. When the last drop had been pulled, and all the black gone, Kelia motioned me over.

“It’s out, Mab, good job. Open your eyes because now we need to be very careful.”

Kelia slid away from the prince, keeping her magic around the ball of darkness that writhed like a mass of moving shadows.

“Wow . . .” Mab stepped back. “Is that all of it?”

“Yes,” Kelia said. “Callum, I need you to surround my magic with your fire magic, keep it contained, and when I release mine, the fire will destroy the rest of the darkthing.”

Finally, something I could do. I hated standing and watching. “Tell me when.”

Calling the fire to my hands, I wrapped my flames around her barrier, surprisingly my flames didn’t destroy her magic, they joined creating a purple flame that flickered and pulsed.

Her eyes widened and her gaze met mine.

The moment our magic intertwined, something switched inside me and I knew she had to feel it too.

I didn’t just care for her.

She was my mate.

I could feel the bond snapping into place as our magic swirled and created something entirely new, an orb of glittering violet as dark as my plum toned skin.

While I couldn’t revel in this wonderful discovery, I focused on the little problem floating in the room.

“On my count,” she said, returning to her more demanding self.

Keeping her gaze, I watched as she counted.

“1 . . . 2 . . . 3.”

On three, she stepped back, and I slammed my hands together, crushing the ball of death in a fiery slap.

We all went silent, looking at each other than the prince. Kelia went back to the wound, smiling. “No lines.”

“That means?” The queen’s hand shook as she gripped the edge of the bed.

“He’ll live.”

Mab threw herself around Kelia’s legs, crying and muttering a million thank-yous.

My gaze locked onto Kelia’s, and I had never been more in awe of anyone.

She was more than my mate. She was everything.
