His voice dropped an octave, desire dripping from his tone. Once he finished applying the topical, he moved to massage my other shoulder, his hands kneading my neck and releasing the tension.

Closing my eyes, I relished in the relaxing sensation. “That feels good.”

The bed creaked as he moved closer, his knee pressing into my lower back. He moved his thumbs in a circular motion, making my body ease with delight. My skin tingled a bit where he put the salve, removing some of the pain and burn I’d felt only moments before. Heat pooled in my center, and I gripped the front of my dress, feeling too exposed.

“Are you okay?” His husky voice sent a whirl of emotions through me. He took my dress and lifted it back on to my shoulders in a tender display of affection. “You need to rest.”

I nodded, trying to not let the emotions of the day send me into a sobbing mess.

“Sleep. I’ll have food sent here later and then we can talk about what happened.”

Watching Leon leave my room, I realized one thing: I was not returning home until that dark fae and I had explored every part of the Oasis together. It sounded a bit cliché, and I didn’t care if it made no sense. I didn’t have time to be sensible when any moment my father could arrive and whisk me back to my prison.

If only my father could’ve seen me in action. He would’ve been angry, but proud. The man had six daughters and no son, though I more than made up for it. Today proved that not only was I powerful, but I could take care of those around me, protect them like a good queen would. A feat I would never have discovered under guard in the palace where people fought for me.

With a smile on my lips, I laid on my stomach and fell asleep, dreaming of adventure and pushing the nightmares away.

When I woke hours later, the sun had faded from the horizon, and the ship rocked softly.

My back ached a bit, but the salve Leon used helped tremendously. I thought of his hands on my skin and sensually he had massaged my shoulders and neck. Who knew pirates could be so attentive? Part of me wondered if he acted like that around all females or if I was different.

I hurried up to the deck, eager to see if he was awake.

With moonlight highlighting his dark skin, and his golden eyes glowing, he reminded me of fire and brimstone. Sensing my presence, he turned in my direction, one hand on the helm another holding a mug.

“Sleep well?” he asked.

I nodded. “I did, thank you.”

He motioned me to come closer.

When I didn’t see any of the crew near, I whispered, “You were supposed to come back.”

His lip curved into a wicked grin. “Aye, and I almost woke you.”

“You came into my room?”

“I did, and you were heavily snoring.”

“I was not!”

He chuckled. “It’s okay, love. You’re exceptionally pretty with that mouth of yours hanging open. Very tempting.”

My cheeks warmed at the thought of him thinking improper thoughts. He didn’t know my heritage, and so he treated me like a woman he wanted and craved. It was exhilarating to be spoken to so freely. While I had played around with a man once, well boy at the time, it was awkward, albeit a bit sweet. Leon was no boy, nor normal male. A dark fae with a wicked smile and eyes that tempted me in various ways.

Could we have one magical night under the stars?

No. No matter how inviting the idea, I still had a duty to my people. I’d have my adventure and enjoy as much as possible without doing anything too inappropriate.

Feeling a little bold, I trailed my fingers along the blue tattoos on his forearm, right below where his sleeve rolled up. “It would’ve been nice to have been awoken with a kiss.”

His eyes darkened as if my suggestion came as both a shock and very enticing. “Is that why you sought me out? Tell me what you want, love.”

I shrugged, playing along, my heart rocking like the waves surrounding us. “Maybe. What are you drinking?”

“High flower tea. Here, have a sip.” He handed me the warm mug, his gaze stirring all sorts of wants and needs within me.

The soothing liquid tasted of melon and honey, but not too much. “This is very good.”
