“It’s not funny,” I grumbled, sitting on the stairs to the main deck.

“Oh, but it is. I rather enjoyed your explanation of why you had to save the poor women from unstable living conditions.” He chuckled, and Declan joined him.

“The plug fell out; I had no defense.”

“No, worries, love. I had to fish Declan out once.”

Declan’s face turned red. “I had a similar issue with a falling plug.”

Leon laughed again, and I decided I’d had enough excitement for one night. “I’m going back to my cabin.”

“Night, love.” He winked then continued chatting about Declan’s declaration of love to the sirens.

Walking below deck, listening to Leon laugh, I realized I didn’t want this journey to end, no matter what dangers we faced next.
