When he stepped closer, I moved back. I’d never been this close to a dark fae, and none of the stories compared to the reality. He wasn’t just handsome, no, handsome seemed to plain a word for the smooth skin and brilliant eyes that inspected me like a cat. “Lost your voice, love?”

“No,” I stammered. “I wasn’t expecting a dark fae on this ship.”

He grinned. “Do I frighten you?”

No. Yes. No.

“Of course not.” I moved away from the window, circling closer to the door in case I needed a quick escape.

“I hear you’d like to go to the Oasis?” He narrowed his gaze, and I swear my heart thumped in response.

“Yes.”

“You’re lucky that is our destination. My name is Leon.”

I held out my hand for him to kiss like a gentleman. “Havana.”

He pressed his lips to my knuckles, and my belly warmed. “Welcome to theRavager, love.”

“Thank you.” I tugged my hand away before he did something distasteful.

Leon leaned against the desk in the corner. “I’m taking a risk carrying a woman. The price will be high.”

“I’m willing to pay, and don’t try to kill me instead,” I said, standing straighter. “I’ve buried enough jewelry to more than pay for passage, and when I’m safely returned to this port, I’ll show you where it is.”

He rubbed his chin, eyeing me. The sunlight coming in from the window made the red ruby on one of his silver rings sparkle. “Why would a beautiful woman be traveling alone, on my ship, to the Oasis?”

“My reasons are my own.” I folded my arms and glared at him. “I am paying you for your services, not inquisitions of curiosity.”

His gaze darkened and, in a heartbeat, he was across the room, holding my chin in his rough hand. “Tell me, love. What services of mine do you require?”

A wild sensation blazed from the area he touched. No man had ever spoken to me with such brazenness.

“Your ship,” I whispered.

“Is that all?”

“For now.”

The reply made him grin, and he backed away. “I’ll let my crew know to leave you alone. You may meet me in my quarters later for dinner.”

Before I could respond, he tipped his hat and left.
