“Nibbled,” I corrected, folding my arms.

Her eyes sparkled. “Are you part shark then?”

Shrugging, I denied her a reply, letting her conceive her own image of me in that pretty head of hers.

“Thank you, Leon,” she said, moving precariously closer than I had the will to step away from.

“Of course,” I said. “The day is yours. You can do anything you want.”

“Anything?” She bit her bottom lip, and her chest bumped against mine. When she glanced up at me, licking her lips and eying me with a hunger I couldn’t ignore, I brushed my hand across her shoulder.

“Like I said, love, anything you want.”

She slung her arms around my neck. “And what if I want you?”

Unable to contain myself any longer, I looped one arm around her waist and grabbed the back of her head with the other. “Then you will have me.”

Pulling her forward, I pressed my lips against hers. She gasped, but then opened her mouth, letting me slide in and kiss her like I had wanted to all day. She moaned against me, and I lifted her, bringing her closer against my chest.

The sensible thing would be to stop this kiss before it went any further, but I couldn’t. Havana tasted of coconut, pineapple, and deliciously sweet. Those lips I had been desiring were as soft as I’d imagined and moved with mine in perfect accord.

She pulled me tighter, kissing me faster and pressing her body against mine. I knew any more of this wild dance would be trouble, and when her kisses became more urgent, more frantic, I hauled her out of the water.

“Where are we going?” she said, her breaths coming fast.

I didn’t want to leave, and any rational man would have stayed. The decision to have her against the rocks, pulled at me stronger than any tide. Could I have her and then continue on, returning her to marry another? These unwarranted feelings stirring inside were too irrational or had I been celibate for too long?

“Leon,” she said, placing her hand against my face and forcing me to meet her gaze. “Where are we going?”

I wanted to explain my actions, and how I was attempting to keep my promise to her. She leaned forward and took my bottom lip into her mouth, playing with my lip ring. I groaned and gently pried her off.

“Love, anymore and things are going to get very indecent around here.”

When she didn’t smile, I thought I had insulted her. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”

She pulled out of my arms, something I instantly regretted.

“Well,” she said. “This has been very exciting.”

Placing her hands on her hips, she turned toward the sandy path leading toward Mermaid’s Cove. “It seems like someone else wants to come here.”

A pair of humans walked toward us.

“Guess that’s our cue to leave.” I held out my arm for her to take.

“I guess you’re right.” She hooked her arm around mine, linking us together.

“Leon,” she said with a hint of sadness in her voice, “thank you for this. I will remember this day forever.”
