My heart is in my throat. Isaac is making some good points. I know that this promotion is especially important to both of them. It’s hard enough that they are competing against each other. Having my father angry at them adds stress to the situation,
Luke and Isaac are in a stare off. I can tell Luke is struggling.
“I don’t care. I want to be with Emma. I want to give up my apartment and come live with Emma permanently.”
My heart leaps with joy. I jump up from my chair and give Luke a tight hug.
“Emma, you are my life and my future.”
Luke and I kiss. Isaac is exasperated.
“I can’t believe this craziness,” Isaac says.
“Please Isaac, I love you too.”
“Me too buddy,” Luke says.
Isaac shakes his head and lets out a big sigh.
“I can’t be part of this. Goodbye.”
Then Isaac walks out of my house and my heart begins to ache and my eyes burn with tears. Luke takes me into his arms.
“He’ll come around Emma. I know Isaac very well and I know he won’t give us up.”
“I hope so.”
I press my head against Luke’s chest and close my eyes. I say a prayer so that Isaac will come back. I can’t believe this is happening. I thought we were going to live happily ever after.
