Page 65 of Two Pilots for Her

It occurred to me then that these two men were just as vulnerable as I am. It is not an excuse for their behavior, but instead an explanation. They are hero-worshiped and told they are invincible- and tonight they found out that they aren’t.

The two of them are looking for redemption, and I am the person that needs to give it to them. Should I redeem them? Are they even redeemable?

“So now that the two of you know that what you did was wrong, can you promise me that you will never ever do this again?”

“I promise,” Andrew says.

Dylan squeezes my hand and I know what his answer is, but I tell him that he has to say it out loud to me.

“I promise, Hazel.”

“I forgive you,” I say.

Andrew and Dylan let out a breath of relief.

“I can look past all of this if you promise to burn the Bang Book and never do something as disgusting and misogynistic as this ever again.”

We all stand up and hug, agreeing to each other that this will never happen again before sharing a kiss.

This is an ending that I dreamed of after the situation on the plane. I knew in my heart that I could not stay mad at the boys. Now that we were all given a chance at life again, I’m relieved that we’re no longer fighting.

It’s time to get on with things and see if we can all be happy together again.
