“Damn it.” I puff out an exaggerated sigh.

As I toss my phone to the side in a fit of anger, I almost yell, “Great. Just fucking great.”

I slam my glass down on the bar and it cracks into a couple of pieces. How can she do this to me?I can't believe what she just put on Instagram. Why is this happening yet again?

“Whoa, don't do that.” Michael, the usual barkeep, looks at me with a knowing eye and a warning glance.

“Temptress, what's got your panties in such a wad that you start breaking glasses, messin' up my bar top?” he shakes his head and picks up another glass to fill.

“Well, for starters, I'm fucking alone, again.”

Fighting back a few tears of pity at this point, I breathe deep and continue.

“Me and Harrison are over, called it quits last week.”

My hand waves as if to blow off a bug flying about. I'm certainly not going to be seen tearing up over that festering asshole.

I swallow hard and push forward with what really has my undies twisted tight.

“Now, I find out that Amanda is knocked up and tying the knot, making me the last of our collective group to find love and settle down.”

I drop my head to the top of the bar. Covering it with my hands, I try not to let a monstrous wail escape from my lips.

What made everything change? We were the last two, and now it's just me. All my friends have married and are having babies. Why not me? Maybe there’s something wrong with me. Maybe I'm too demanding… too picky.

In college, we all made a promise to be single for as long as we could, but I guess that’s come to a close. Quickly.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.I had wondered why Amanda didn't drink at all the last time we went out. Life happens so fast that you don't even see the rug going out from under your feet.

“C'mon now, don't be that kinda friend,” Michael says to me. “Jealousy is a terrible disease, and it can take root quickly.”

He’s nodding his head as I force myself to look up at him. I roll my eyes and reply sarcastically.

“I'm not jealous. As her bestie, she could have told me in person instead of just announcing it to the world.”

I plop my head down and cover it again, hoping that Michael isn't right.

Ah. But he is... and you know it.

I miss my girls so much. Having a group of girls to hang out with and share your woes and successes, sure makes life bearable. Especially when you call one at three in the morning because some dick just left you in a parking lot and you know they'll be right there.

When Mary moved to Newark we lost touch. That was the start of the group's undoing.

I force my head up and take in another deep breath, groaning loudly instead of shrieking in shame. My dark hair spills over my shoulders, caressing my open back as I turn to browse the club and its patrons.

It's obvious that there’s no party to attend tonight.

This is where all the magic happened. We all loved to hang out here, partying and dancing all night.

I breathe out a satirical laugh, and remember being so excited to get here, have a couple of drinks, and just dance the stresses of daily life away.

I'm constantly stressed and pulled in so many directions as the CEO ofRose, a famous jewelry company. It’s hard work being at the top.

Just having the ability to deck out in sexy dresses, getting out and leaving it all on the dance floor is so invigorating and relieving. I sigh again, moving my body back towards the bar to see Michael staring at me.

“Can I get you another drink?”
