“We’ve already settled this, Alexa. We don’t want to know who the father is.”
“You’ve settled this already?”
“Yes, Mattheo and I will love this baby so much it won’t matter who his father really is. He explained the way he was raised, and I think that’s a wonderful way for the little guy to grow up.”
I begin to shed tears of joy. Both men are confused.
“I want this baby so much,” I say.
“Then why are you crying?” James asks.
“I was so scared I was going to lose one of you.”
“You will never lose us,” Mattheo says.
James gets up to kiss me.
“Baby, we’re tight. Nothing can blow up this marriage.”
“You sure?”
“Damn sure.”
We all exchange hugs and kisses.
“Yippee. I’m going to be a father. Let’s go buy cigars.” James shouts.
Mattheo starts to laugh.
“First we’ve got to get this little lady something to eat.”
“That’s right. What are you craving, baby? I’ll go get it for you,” James says.
Then I feel myself turning green. I break away from the boys to go throw up. They run behind me to the bathroom. James lifts the toilet seat for me and Mattheo holds back my hair. Somehow, this makes me stop wanting to throw up.
“What’s wrong?” Mattheo asks.
James looks worried. I smile at both of them.
“I am going to have the best pregnancy ever as long as the two of you are by my side.”
“Forever.” James shouts.
“Always.” Mattheo answers.
Forever and always with these two extraordinary men, and now a baby. My heart is full. I take both of their hands in mine.
“How about we go to the mall so that I can have Chinese, Mexican and a pizza. I’m starving.”
“Good thing we own the mall. We’re really going to need those mall discounts now.”
“How much are those tent dresses in that maternity shop?”
“Oh, you both are going to spend a lot of money on the baby and me- and I have to say I’m okay with that.”
We all laugh as we get our things to leave the apartment. This is a moment of joy that we will never forget. I can’t wait to raise my child with these two beautiful, amazing men.
