The next day, I get to work earlier to wait for Tamara to come in. When she finally does, she sees me with the flowers and candies. The hint of surprise crosses her face, but immediately changes to anger.

Taking a deep breath, I walk over and offer her the flowers and the candy. “I’m really sorry for what I said about you.”

She looks at me with her angry eyes and taking the flowers, Tamara watches me as she dumps them into the trash can. “That should get the message across.” She smiles ruefully and smacks her hands together.

I feel like I got a sucker punch in the gut about the flowers. But, she did keep the chocolates. It gave me some hope to see a new chocolate gone each time I pass her desk.

Ken comes in and asks me point blank. “Did she like them?”

“The flowers were tossed immediately, but the chocolates have been eaten.”

“She’ll come around at some point,” he pats me on the back.

I’m just not feeling that hopeful.
