We stroll inside with smiles wide and our heads held high. I’m scanning the place for somewhere to sit, when I notice a group of guys from work. My gut plummets.

Oh my God, what if they see me?

Wait, maybe they won’t recognize me.

I look around for a place to avoid the group, only to see more guys from work. I look around again. This place is crawling with them.

“Tamara?!”

Shit. I imagine myself slumping my shoulders with a dour look on my face.

Their eyes grow wide and their jaws drop. I’m under a magnifying glass.

“Looks like you’re going to be the talk of the oil fields tomorrow.” Jessy mumbles, leading us to an empty booth in the corner.

“They can talk all they want,” I whisper.

“Talk isallthey’re going to get.”

A waiter approaches the table and Jessy orders us a pitcher of beer.

“So much for getting away from work, huh?”
