Tate....

I take a step closer to him, brushing my hair over my shoulder as I dip closer, “If need us again and things are safe, we’ll find a way to be there to help them. They’ll be okay. Sleepy can handle things topside for a while.” He shakes his head, the first to let their tendrils dissipate. We all know he can, we also know in less than a few years here everyone we knew down there will be long dead. Their bones dust in the ground. Time moves differently here, there’s never been more than a bundle of years between lives for us. Before another catastrophe was on the horizon.

And now they don’t need us.

The threat created aged ago, albeit inadvertently by the Fates, is finally gone. We’ve served our purpose, kept mortals safe for thousands of years. I’ve always been content wherever they are.My family. That won’t change. “Seems dying a few thousand times still hasn’t humbled you.” Hades remarks, the chipped note to his tone losing its murderous note although that does little to comfort me. I turn towards him as Lachesis speaks up, “I think we’ve said all that needs to be.” Hades eyes us once more with no small amount of contempt before he leaves the way he appeared. No need to get the last word, I suppose, when you’re a God of his caliber. Not someone even my Harbingers would fair against in a fight. I can manipulate the energy of this world because it’s what made me. What gives me live here, I was created with it but even I would struggle to so much as scratch him. Hades is a prick, no doubt but it brings a sad smile to my face knowing the souls of my past families are safe in his river, dreaming for eternity of the things they love most. Di would have to make my way to the river soon to look in on Deniki. I know it’s not fair to pick favorites but- Clotho walks towards me, placing a kiss on my forehead interrupting my thoughts. It feels like the warm caress of the sun. Another thing I’ll miss. Like eating and dreams... hell, even needing to use the bathroom, all those wonderfully human things that used to annoy me I’ll miss.

“My strong girl,” she whispers, running her fingers down my arm, “I’m sorry for the losses you’ve all endured to protect them. Only to be thanked like this at the end of it all.” Everett smiles, lifting me into his strong arms, his marble gray eyes light, like the smiling ones beside him. I turn back to my mother, “I’d do it all over again. Every life, every year, and every loss.” Tate runs his fingers along the outside of my arm. Milo lacing his through mine.

“Our gift.” They say in unison.

My smile widens, “I love you. Always.”

“We love you more.” Everett whispers before carting me off towards the woods. The knowing giggling from Atropos and Lachesis makes my cheeks heat. Archeron grumbles something as I click my tongue. The heavy trudging steps of Lima following us closely. My stomach fills with butterflies, the feeling resounding in our bond. For the first time in over twenty years, one birth and two deaths. I’m going to the home I share with my soulmates.

We’re all exactly where we’re supposed to be. Together.
